Kikoru Shinomiya is the prodigy of the Defense Force's Third Division, a young officer whose talent put her far ahead of every other recruit. She fights up close with a huge axe and expects perfection, from herself most of all. Serving alongside Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa, she becomes one of the new generation the force is counting on.

Appearance

Kikoru is a slim young woman with long blonde hair worn in high twin tails, held with black horn like accessories, and sharp green eyes. She wears the dark Defense Force combat suit with grey shoulder armour, and in battle she carries an axe so large it looks impossible for someone her size to swing. That contrast is her image in a nutshell: neat, proud and precise in person, and overwhelming force the moment a fight begins.

Personality

Kikoru is proud, blunt and fiercely competitive. She has been treated as a prodigy for so long that being the best feels like a duty, not a gift, and she trains and fights like someone with something to prove. At first she has no time for Kafka, an older recruit who looks out of his depth. Watching him risk everything for his comrades changes her mind the hard way. Under the pride there is a young officer who carries heavy expectations and refuses to let her squadmates down, even when she has to be carried off the field to stop.

Background & Story

Kikoru joined the Defense Force as its standout young talent and was posted to the Third Division, where she serves alongside fellow newcomers Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa. Where Kafka scraped in at the last attempt, Kikoru arrived as the recruit everyone expected to lead her generation. Battle after battle, the two opposites become comrades: the prodigy learns what the late bloomer's determination looks like up close, and Kafka learns how high the standard at the top of the force really is. By Season 2, Kikoru stands among the officers the Defense Force is building its future around.

• Kafka Hibino: Her squadmate in the Third Division. Kikoru starts out dismissing the older recruit, then watches him throw himself into danger for the squad again and again, and ends up trusting him with her life.
