Akane Kurokawa

About Akane Kurokawa

Akane Kurokawa is a serious young stage actress who can rebuild a person's whole personality from tiny clues. A reality dating show scandal nearly destroyed her, until Aqua saved her career and her life. Grateful and quietly intense, she studies Ai Hoshino so completely that she can become her, a talent that makes her both Aqua's ally and his mirror.

Appearance

Akane is a slender young actress with long, dark blue-black hair and serious blue eyes, giving her a calm, bookish beauty quite unlike an idol's sparkle. She dresses simply and carries herself quietly, more student than star. Her most striking feature only appears at work: when Akane prepares a role, her posture, expressions and even the light in her eyes change completely, audiences who watch her become Ai Hoshino on a reality show find the transformation genuinely unsettling.

Personality

Akane is earnest, diligent and quietly intense. She takes every role, and every debt, completely seriously, which made her vulnerable when public opinion turned on her: she had no armour between herself and the audience. Her gratitude to Aqua borders on devotion, but it is clear-eyed; she understands his darkness better than anyone and worries about him precisely because she can model his thinking. Akane's intelligence is her gift and her burden: she notices everything, including the things people most want hidden.

Background & Story

Akane built her career the slow way, as a serious stage actress with a theatre company, admired for her craft long before television noticed her. Her appearance on the reality dating show Love for Real went wrong: edited into a villain, she was hit by a wave of online abuse that nearly destroyed her. Rescued, professionally and personally, by Aqua, she repaid him with total loyalty and put her gift to work: Akane can research a person from fragments and rebuild their personality so completely that she can become them. It makes her a phenomenal actress, a dangerous ally in Aqua's search for the truth, and a mirror he is not always comfortable looking into.

Key Relationships

• Aqua Hoshino: The boy who saved her career and her life; she repays him with fierce loyalty and an unsettling understanding of his mind.
• Kana Arima: A fellow actress and unspoken rival, for roles, and for Aqua's attention.
• Ai Hoshino: The idol Akane studies so completely for a role that she can reproduce her mannerisms almost perfectly.
