About Shizuri Mugino
Shizuri Mugino leads ITEM, a four-girl unit that works the dark side of Academy City. She is the city's fourth-ranked Level 5 esper, and her power, the Meltdowner, makes her one of the most feared people in Academy City. She is voiced by Ami Koshimizu in Japanese.
Appearance
Mugino has long, wavy light brown hair that falls well past her shoulders and a tall, confident bearing that makes her stand out in any room. She dresses well and carries herself like someone used to being obeyed, with a calm, almost bored expression that can turn sharp in a second when a mission goes wrong.
Personality
Mugino is proud, demanding and completely sure of her own strength. Ranked fourth among Academy City's Level 5 espers, she expects results from her team and has little patience for failure. She can be cruel to enemies without a second thought. With her own girls, though, there is a rough loyalty underneath the temper, and she treats ITEM's survival as her personal responsibility.
Background & Story
Mugino built her name on the dark side of Academy City, the hidden layer of covert groups that do the city's dirtiest work. As the leader of ITEM, she plans the unit's missions and leads from the front, using her Meltdowner to finish fights quickly. ITEM's jobs bring the team into contact with the worst corners of the city, from rogue espers to experiments nobody wants exposed. Mugino's story in this series follows her unit as those missions draw them deeper into the darkness they work in.
Powers & Abilities
- Meltdowner: Mugino's esper power forces electrons into an unstable state between particle and wave, then fires them as hugely destructive beams. The beams melt and cut through almost anything in their path, which is how she earned the name Meltdowner.
- Silicon card shots: Using thin silicon cards, Mugino can split and redirect her Meltdowner fire, turning a single beam into several attacks at once and striking targets from angles they cannot guard.
Key Relationships
- Frenda Seivelun: ITEM's explosives specialist and the team's most talkative member. Frenda fears Mugino's temper, but the two have worked together long enough to trust each other in a fight.
- Rikou Takitsubo: ITEM's tracker, whose readings guide the team's missions. Mugino relies on Takitsubo's ability to find targets, and watches her condition closely because the work takes a toll on her.
- Saiai Kinuhata: ITEM's defensive wall, a girl whose reinforced body can take hits that would stop anyone else. Mugino uses her as the team's shield while she lines up the finishing shot.
