About Rudo Surebrec
Rudo Surebrec is an orphan from the slums of a floating city who was framed for murder and thrown into the Pit, the wasteland of trash and monsters below. The Cleaners take him in, and he learns to fight with the objects other people threw away. He is voiced by Aoi Ichikawa in Japanese and Bryson Baugus in English.
Appearance
Rudo is a lean teenage boy with messy dark hair, sharp red eyes and a usually angry expression that matches his temper. He wears his gloves at all times, even when he sleeps, along with rough, patched work clothes that suit life first in the slums and then down in the Pit. Among the Cleaners he adds their gear to that look, but the gloves never come off.
Personality
Rudo has a short fuse and a deep grudge against the world above, and he does not hide either one. Growing up poor in the slums taught him that people throw away things, and people, far too easily. That is why he treasures objects others call junk. Under the anger he is loyal and quick to protect anyone being treated as disposable, because he knows exactly how that feels.
Background & Story
Rudo grew up an orphan in the slums of a floating city, picking through the trash of the wealthy for anything with value left in it. His life changes in one night: he is framed for a murder he did not commit, and the city throws him into the Pit as punishment. The Pit is where the city dumps everything it wants gone, a poisoned wasteland of garbage and trash beasts. Rudo survives, and a Cleaner named Enjin finds him there. Joining the Cleaners gives Rudo a team, a trade and a path back up, if he can stay alive long enough to take it.
Powers & Abilities
- Giver: Rudo is a Giver, one of the rare people who can pour their feelings into an object they cherish and draw out its power. In the Pit, that gift is the difference between a piece of junk and a weapon.
- His gloves: The gloves Rudo always wears are his own cherished object, the tool he channels his power through. With them, he can take hold of discarded things and bring out what they are worth.
- Trash turned into weapons: Rudo can turn the rubbish of the Pit into working weapons and tools, one discarded object at a time. It suits him perfectly: the world called him trash, so he fights back with it.
Key Relationships
- Enjin: The Cleaner who finds Rudo in the Pit and brings him into the team. Enjin is his way into the Cleaners and the adult Rudo measures himself against, even when they clash.
- Zanka Nijiku: A young Cleaner assigned to toughen Rudo up. Their training is rough, their respect for each other is grudging, and it slowly turns into real trust.
- Riyo Reaper: A fellow Cleaner who fights with a pair of scissors. Easygoing on the surface and deadly underneath, she is one of the first teammates Rudo learns to work beside.
