Keiko Ayano

About Keiko Ayano

Keiko Ayano is Silica, a young dagger user and one of the rare beast tamers of Aincrad, famous across the middle floors with her feathered dragon, Pina. When Pina is killed protecting her, a rescue mission with Kirito turns into her first real adventure, and a lesson in how dangerous the front lines are. Cheerful and brave, Silica represents the ordinary players the clearers fought to free.

Appearance

Silica is a small, cheerful girl with light brown hair worn in twin tails tied with red ribbons, and bright eyes that make her look even younger than her thirteen years. In Aincrad she wears a light blue-and-white outfit suited to a dagger user, with her feathered little dragon Pina perched on her shoulder, wrapped around her neck or fluttering beside her. Pina (sky-blue feathers, long tail, devoted expression) is as much a part of her silhouette as her dagger. Everything about Silica reads small and bright, which is exactly why the middle floors underestimated her.

Personality

Silica is bright, kind and brave in the way of someone small who refuses to be treated as fragile. Fame went to her head a little early in the game, and losing Pina teaches her humility the hard way. She owns her mistakes and works to deserve her partner back. She looks up to Kirito and Asuna enormously, trains seriously, and after the game becomes part of the survivors' school circle. Her role in the group is warmth: she is the ordinary player, not a front-line legend, and her courage is the kind anyone could recognise as their own.

Background & Story

Keiko Ayano joined Sword Art Online as Silica and became famous on its middle floors as one of the game's rare beast tamers, partnered with the feathered dragon Pina, a fame that made the young player a little proud and a little careless. When her party's expedition goes wrong and Pina dies protecting her, Silica learns that a rare revival item exists but must be used within days. Kirito, who was hunting the same criminals targeting her, helps her reach it, an adventure that teaches the middle floors' idol what the front line actually costs, and gives her a reason to keep growing stronger.

Powers & Abilities

• Beast Taming: One of Aincrad's rare tamers: Silica's bond with the feathered dragon Pina gives her scouting, warning calls and light healing support in the field.
• Dagger Skills: Silica fights with a dagger at close range, relying on speed and Pina's warnings rather than strength.

Key Relationships

• Kirito: The front-liner who helped her revive Pina and taught her what real danger, and real kindness, look like on the front line.
• Asuna Yuuki: One of the older girls Silica looks up to in the survivors' circle, treating her almost like a big sister.
• Rika Shinozaki: Lisbeth, a fellow member of Kirito and Asuna's circle, the older girls look out for Silica in every world they share.
