About Fran
Fran is a young adventurer of the Black Cat tribe and one of the two leads of Reincarnated as a Sword. She wields Teacher, the sentient sword who is her partner and mentor, and travels with him to grow stronger and to evolve. She is voiced by Ai Kakuma in Japanese and Melissa Molano in English.
Appearance
Fran is a young girl with black hair, purple eyes and the black cat ears and tail of her tribe. She wears a dark travelling outfit with a fur trimmed cloak, a wide belt and shorts marked with a white cat design, built for moving fast and fighting on the road. Teacher is almost always at her side or in her hand, a large ornate sword with a gold guard and pale blue lines running down the blade.
Personality
Fran is quiet and direct, and she does not waste words. Under that calm surface she is determined to a fault. Her goal of growing stronger and evolving drives nearly every choice she makes, and she keeps pushing forward even when a fight turns against her. With Teacher she is open and trusting, and the bond between the two of them is the warmest part of the series.
Background & Story
Fran is a girl of the Black Cat tribe who set out as an adventurer with a clear aim: to grow stronger and to evolve. Her life changed when she took up Teacher, the sentient sword who became her weapon, her partner and her mentor. Travelling with him, she takes on work, faces monsters and keeps testing herself against stronger opponents. Season 2 continues that journey, and from episode 6 the Seedrun Arc carries her into the second half of the season.
Powers & Abilities
- Swordsmanship with Teacher: Fran fights with Teacher, a sentient sword who can think, speak and guide her in battle. Fighting as a pair means she always has a second mind watching the fight with her.
- Adventurer's combat skills: As a working adventurer, Fran takes on monsters and dangerous work on the road, and her fighting keeps sharpening with every journey she and Teacher finish.
- Drive to evolve: Fran's goal is to evolve, and that aim shapes how she fights. She seeks out stronger challenges instead of avoiding them, because growth is the whole point of her travels.
Key Relationships
- Teacher: Her sword, partner and mentor. Teacher guides Fran, teaches her and fights beside her in every battle, and the two of them are rarely apart.
- Jean du Vix: One of the key people Fran and Teacher cross paths with during their travels in Season 2.
- Lich: One of the notable figures in Fran and Teacher's path in Season 2, voiced by Sho Hayami.
