About Devils' Crest
Devils' Crest is the new anime from Reki Kawahara, the writer behind Sword Art Online. It adapts his Demons' Crest light novels, published by Dengeki Bunko with illustrations by Yukiko Horiguchi since November 2022, and it is made by Production I.G as an original net animation for Amazon Prime Video. The premise will sound familiar to Kawahara fans, with a twist of its own: Actual Magic is a full-dive game played by sixth grader Yuma Ashihara and his classmates, and one day the game fuses with the real world. The players are sealed inside, the fantasy dangers around them are suddenly real, and children who logged in to play have to survive for real. Shinji Ushiro serves as chief director with Kenichiro Komaya directing, Eiji Umehara handles series composition, and the music comes from Yuki Hayashi and Naoyuki Chikatani. Story & Plot
Yuma Ashihara is a sixth grader, and Actual Magic is the full-dive game he and his classmates play. Full-dive means exactly what it sounds like: you do not watch the game on a screen, you step inside it, in a fantasy world of magic and monsters.
Then the game changes. Actual Magic fuses with reality, the boundary between the game world and the real one disappears, and the players find themselves sealed inside. Nothing about it is pretend any more. The creatures are real, the danger is real, and logging out is no longer an option.
What follows is a survival story carried by children. Yuma and his classmates have to understand the rules of a world that used to be their game, and find a way to live in it, and hopefully a way back out of it.
