Irina Jelavic
Irina Jelavic is a main character in Assassination Classroom, a professional assassin fluent in ten languages, planted in Class 3-E as its English teacher after her own attempt on Koro-sensei failed. The students nickname her 'Professor Bitch', which she hates. She is voiced by Shizuka Itō in Japanese and Martha Harms in English.
About Irina Jelavic
Irina Jelavic is a professional assassin, multilingual, seductive and lethal, planted in Class 3-E as its English teacher after failing to kill Koro-sensei herself. Nicknamed mercilessly by the students, she sulks, schemes and slowly discovers she likes teaching, and that the class's misfits are the first people to treat her as a person rather than a weapon. Her romance with Karasuma is hopeless in the funniest way.
Appearance
Irina is a strikingly beautiful woman in her early twenties, with long wavy blonde hair, blue eyes and a glamorous, confident style far removed from a normal schoolteacher's. She dresses in elegant, figure-hugging outfits and carries herself like someone used to being watched. Her look is a professional tool: as an assassin she has spent years using charm and disguise to get close to targets. In the classroom, though, her polished image keeps colliding with reality, sulking when lessons flop, blushing when students tease her, and dressing down into far more ordinary clothes as teaching becomes her real life.
Personality
Irina begins as a cold professional who sees people as tools and the students as brats in her way. The class disarms her completely: they nickname her mercilessly, demand she actually teach, and then, to her shock, treat her as one of their own. She is vain, dramatic and quick to sulk, but also genuinely skilled and, underneath, lonely: assassination is the only life she has ever known. Teaching gives her the first honest relationships of her life. Her hopeless, one-sided pursuit of the oblivious Karasuma becomes a class spectacle, and her slow transformation from weapon to teacher is one of 3-E's warmest stories.
Background & Story
Irina grew up in a war-torn country and became an assassin as a child, building a feared international reputation on seduction, languages and infiltration. Hired to kill Koro-sensei, she posed as a substitute teacher, and failed completely, like every professional before her. Rather than leave, she was kept on as Class 3-E's English teacher, partly as cover and partly because the class, after a rocky start, demanded a proper apology and real lessons from her. The students' nickname for her, born from a mangled attempt at pronouncing 'Jelavic', sticks despite her protests. Over the year, the assassin who trusted no one becomes fiercely protective of her class.
Powers & Abilities
- Master of Seduction and Infiltration: Irina's signature assassination method: she charms and disarms targets in person, getting close enough to strike before they sense danger.
- Ten Languages: Irina speaks ten languages fluently, which she uses for undercover work, and, in class, for genuinely excellent English lessons.
- Professional Marksmanship: Behind the glamour she is a trained killer, proficient with firearms and assassination tradecraft.
Key Relationships
- Tadaomi Karasuma: Her colleague and the object of her very obvious affection, which he somehow never notices.
- Koro-sensei: Her original target, who saw through her act instantly and now treats her as a fellow teacher.
- Rio Nakamura: One of the students quickest to tease Irina, and among the first to treat her as a real teacher.
- Nagisa Shiota: A student whose respect Irina earns the hard way, through honest teaching rather than tricks.
