Hikaru Shidou

About Hikaru Shidou

Hikaru Shidou is the leader of the Magic Knights and the knight of fire in Magic Knight Rayearth (2026). A cheerful Tokyo schoolgirl from a kendo dojo family, she is pulled into Cephiro with Umi and Fuu and asked to rescue Princess Emeraude. She is voiced by Ayane Sakura in Japanese.

Appearance

Hikaru is a petite schoolgirl with short pink hair worn with one long thin braid, tied with a red ribbon, and warm amber eyes. In Tokyo she wears her school uniform, a red jacket with a big white bow, a black skirt and red socks. Her look is small and bright, which makes her easy to spot next to the taller Umi. As a Magic Knight she gains armour and a sword suited to her element, fire.

Personality

Hikaru is cheerful, honest and quick to act. She says what she thinks, charges at problems head on, and treats people she has just met like friends already. That openness is her strength as a leader. Umi teases, Fuu plans, and Hikaru simply decides, usually by trusting her heart. She can be stubborn, and she takes promises seriously, which matters a lot in a world that runs on strong feelings.

Background & Story

Hikaru is a second year middle school student in Tokyo. Her family runs a kendo dojo, so she has trained with a sword since she was small, and it shows in how naturally she fights once Cephiro hands her a real one. On a school trip she is caught in a flash of light with Umi Ryuuzaki and Fuu Hououji, two girls from other schools, and the three wake up in Cephiro. The mage Clef names them the legendary Magic Knights and sends them to rescue Princess Emeraude, whose capture is tearing the world apart.

Powers & Abilities

• Fire magic: Hikaru is the Magic Knight of fire. Her magic burns hot and direct, much like her personality, and it grows stronger as her resolve deepens.
• Swordsmanship: Hikaru grew up in a kendo dojo and has trained since childhood, so the sword she receives in Cephiro feels like an old friend rather than a new weapon.
• Rayearth, the fire Rune God: Hikaru's Mashin, or Rune God, is Rayearth, the great spirit of fire whose name the whole series carries. Awakening him is one of the Knights' biggest tasks.

Key Relationships

• Umi Ryuuzaki: Her fellow Magic Knight and the knight of water. Umi is sharp tongued where Hikaru is open, and the two balance each other from the first day.
• Fuu Hououji: Her fellow Magic Knight and the knight of wind. Fuu's calm thinking steadies Hikaru's habit of charging in first.
• Princess Emeraude: The princess Hikaru was summoned to rescue. Emeraude's prayers hold Cephiro together, so saving her means saving the world itself.
• Clef: The master mage who greets the girls in Cephiro, gives them their magic and points them towards their mission.
